Mines, Chicken and Penalty: how the multiplier is calculated
Mines, Chicken and Penalty are “stop in time” games: every safe step (a gem, a lane, a goal) raises the multiplier, and you choose between taking the chips or carrying on. In all three the multiplier is exactly RTP ÷ the probability of getting that far, so any stopping point has the same 97% RTP.

The common rule
If the chance of surviving k steps is P(k), the multiplier offered after k steps is 0.97 ÷ P(k). Stopping there returns, on average, P(k) × 0.97 ÷ P(k) = 97% of the stake. Going further raises the multiplier and lowers the chance in the same proportion.
The hazards (mines, cars, keeper saves) are fixed by the seed when the round starts and do not change as you play.
Mines
A 25-cell field with 1 to 24 hidden mines. The chance of opening k safe cells with m mines is C(25 − m, k) ÷ C(25, k).
| Mines | 1 cell | 2 cells | 3 cells | 5 cells | 10 cells |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ×1.01 | ×1.05 | ×1.1 | ×1.21 | ×1.62 |
| 3 | ×1.1 | ×1.26 | ×1.45 | ×1.96 | ×4.9 |
| 5 | ×1.21 | ×1.53 | ×1.96 | ×3.32 | ×17.16 |
| 10 | ×1.62 | ×2.77 | ×4.9 | ×17.16 | ×1,055.84 |
| 20 | ×4.85 | ×29.1 | ×223.1 | ×51,536.1 | — |
| 24 | ×24.25 | — | — | — | — |
With 24 mines there is a single safe cell: ×24.25 in one go (0.97 × 25).
Chicken
The chicken crosses lane by lane; each lane is safe with probability q, which depends on the difficulty.
| Difficulty | Chance per lane | Lanes | After 1 | After 5 | After 10 | All |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| easy | 92% | 24 | ×1.05 | ×1.47 | ×2.23 | ×7.18 |
| medium | 80% | 20 | ×1.21 | ×2.96 | ×9.03 | ×84.13 |
| hard | 70% | 16 | ×1.39 | ×5.77 | ×34.34 | ×291.88 |
| daredevil | 55% | 12 | ×1.76 | ×19.27 | ×382.95 | ×1,265.96 |
Penalty
The goal has 5 corners. Before each kick the keeper “reads” some corners (1 on easy, 2 on medium, 3 on hard), drawn by the seed among the 5; a kick into a read corner is saved. Because the draw is uniform, every corner has the same chance: there is no “best” corner. There are at most 5 kicks, and the 5th goal ends the round automatically.
| Difficulty | Corners read | Goal chance | After 1 goal | After 3 goals | After 5 goals |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| easy | 1 | 80% | ×1.21 | ×1.89 | ×2.96 |
| medium | 2 | 60% | ×1.62 | ×4.49 | ×12.47 |
| hard | 3 | 40% | ×2.43 | ×15.16 | ×94.73 |
What changes and what does not
- More mines, more dangerous lanes or more read corners = bigger multipliers and smaller chances; the RTP stays 97%.
- Stopping before the first step hands the stake back.
- Every round is verifiable: rotate the seed pair and recompute the mine, lane or keeper positions on the Fair play page.
Frequently asked questions
How many mines should I choose?
It makes no difference to the average return: with 1 or 24 mines the RTP is 97%. Fewer mines give safer steps and smaller multipliers; more mines, the opposite.
Is there a best corner in Penalty?
No. The corners the keeper reads are drawn uniformly before each kick, so every corner has the same chance of a goal.
What is the maximum Chicken multiplier?
On daredevil, crossing all 12 lanes pays about ×1265 (0.97 ÷ 0.55¹²), the game’s published max payout.
