How to play European roulette: choices, payouts and odds

In European roulette a ball lands in one of 37 pockets (0 to 36) and you get chips if it stops on a pocket your choice covers: a single number pays 35 to 1, colours, odd/even and halves pay 1 to 1, dozens and columns pay 2 to 1. With a single zero, every choice has the same 97.3% RTP (36/37).

Zero is green: when it lands, every outside choice (colours, odd/even, halves, dozens, columns) loses and only the number 0 wins.

How a round works

  1. The choice phase opens: place virtual chips on numbers or outside areas. You can combine several choices in one round.
  2. Choices close and the wheel spins; everyone at the table sees the same spin.
  3. The winning number pays the choices that cover it; the others are lost.
  4. The round seed hash was published first; the seed is revealed after and the number is recomputed in your browser.

Why the RTP is 97.3%

A single number pays 35:1, returning 36 times the stake, and comes up once in 37: 36 ÷ 37 = 97.30%. Red returns 2 times and comes up 18 times in 37: 2 × 18 ÷ 37 = 97.30%. The maths is the same for every choice because zero is the only “extra” pocket. In American roulette, with 0 and 00, it would be 36 ÷ 38 = 94.74%.

In the verification, 20 million Roulette spins and 10 million VIP Roulette spins returned between 97.25% and 97.36% on every choice, inside the expected interval.

Progression systems do not change the maths

Systems like Martingale (doubling after a loss) or D’Alembert change the size of your stakes, not the odds of each spin. Since every spin returns 97.3%, any sequence of stakes also returns 97.3% on average. In practice, doubling systems quickly run into the table limit.

Roulette and VIP Roulette

Roulette and VIP Roulette share the same rules and RTP. VIP takes 1,000 to 500,000 virtual chips per round.
